Annual Holiday Craft Workshop

Image

All Lower School students are invited to participate in the 2024 Holiday Craft Workshop to be held Tuesday, December 17.

A longstanding Lower School Lake Ridge tradition, the Holiday Craft Workshop takes place in our very own winter wonderland (Bettcher Convocation Center). This event is entirely put on by parent volunteers to celebrate the season together, and to offer the opportunity for students to make homemade gifts for family members and friends.

On December 17, each grade will spend 45 minutes in Bettcher completing their pre-selected and pre-purchased crafts. All students in each grade will attend the workshop, even if they have not purchased crafts. The PA will provide a service project craft and other activities for non-crafters and those who finish early.  Craft samples will be on display in the Lower School lobby November 11 – 26, and our winter elves will visit classrooms on November 15 to present crafts to each class.

To assist the committee in assuring that all students are included, and that all family’s wishes are accounted for, ALL PARENTS ARE ASKED TO COMPLETE A FORM by Tuesday, November 26, to purchase crafts OR to decline purchasing crafts. (Scroll to the bottom of this page to access the form.)

When completing the form, if you are purchasing crafts, please select the quantity you would like to purchase. If you are not purchasing that craft for your student please enter 0.

Due to the limited availability of supplies and the preparation required by the parent crafters, we will be keeping a strict deadline of Tuesday, November 26th for all orders. Should you purchase crafts and your child not be able to attend on December 17th, we will do our best to provide craft to-go bags, but cannot promise that all crafts will be provided.

5th Grade Philanthropy Featured Craft

Again this year our 5th graders will be leading a craft table with a featured craft – Snowflake Soap. All proceeds from the craft will go to the 5th grade annual philanthropy project. 5th graders will still have the opportunity to complete the other crafts during their designated crafting session.

FAQs

Please read our FAQ sections for answers to frequently asked questions regarding the Holiday Craft Workshop.

When is the deadline to order crafts?
Tuesday, November 26th.

If I have more than one student do they each need their own order form?
Yes, each student requires their own order form and checkout so we can ensure each student has their own crafts wrapped and sent home with them.

How long will my student have to craft?
Each grade will be in Bettcher for a 45 minute window.

When will my student’s crafts come home?
All crafts will come home with students on Tuesday, December 17th or Wednesday, December 18th depending on craft drying time. They will be gift wrapped and ready to distribute to family and friends.

Are all crafts holiday themed?
No! There are several crafts you can make that have a winter or Lake Ridge theme.

How many crafts should my student plan to make?
You know your student best. Each craft takes roughly 7-10 minutes on average. Each student will have a 45-minute session in Bettcher. We do not restrict the number of crafts a child can make, but they will be limited to the time their grade is scheduled.

You do not need to order every craft, but to check out you MUST enter 0 for the ones you are not purchasing.

Will crafts sell out?
Because our crafters must obtain supplies in advance, we have limited the number of certain crafts. As such, some crafts may sell out. If you would like your child to complete a specific craft, please be sure to pre-purchase it as soon as possible.

Can parents attend?
We invite parents who wish to attend the Holiday Craft Workshop to sign up to volunteer at this link.

Can I volunteer to help?
If you are interested in helping out for setup (Monday, December 16th), the day of, or clean-up (Tuesday, December 17th), please sign up at this link.

My child has allergies. Will there be food involved in any crafts?
This year we are offering a candy jar craft that will include Hershey’s chocolate kisses.

My child is absent and won’t be able to attend school that day. How do I get their crafts?
We will make our best effort to prepare a take-home bag for purchased crafts.    The bag will be delivered to your child’s homeroom teacher and will include as many materials as possible for your child to complete their projects at home.   Please note we cannot guarantee this will be possible for every craft.

What are the proceeds used for?
The Parents Association uses the funds to cover the cost of hosting the event, including craft supplies, gift wrap and website processing fees.   Any surplus funds will be used to support PA programming throughout the year. The 5th Grade philanthropy craft proceeds are used to support their annual philanthropy project.
